HITECH Compliance
The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) was signed into law on February 17, 2009 catapulting America’s health care system’s data into the world of technology at high speeds. Our national health care system’s transition from paper cluttered file cabinets and stashed away storage boxes to more time, space, and ultimately financially efficient electronic health records (EHR) has begun. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) announced that January 3, 2011 is the registration kickoff for the Medicare EHR Incentive Program with the maximum incentive payments in 2011. The DHHS also stated that Medicare eligible professionals, eligible hospitals and critical access hospitals (CAHs) who are not in compliance with the HITECH Act by 2015 will face a penalty payment adjustment in their Medicare reimbursement. While the language and provisions of the HITECH Act are complex, finding a single point solution for compliance is simple-ImageWorld.
We, at ImageWorld, have done extensive research to create a comprehensive package for certified compliance so you don’t have to. We interviewed our current clients regarding HITECH compliance so that we could listen and learn about their concerns and plans to address EMR going forward. We were surprised to learn that most medical practices had not addressed this issue nor had they done an initial search to find the appropriate solution for compliance.
We, at ImageWorld, understand the issues. Over the years we have seen these government mandates. Although we believe this one “HITECH” should provide benefits moving forward and cost saving to any practice immediately, we still are cautious of spending tons of money on a program that took the government 18 months to figure out what the term “meaningful use” actually meant. We also understand that a Practice does not make its money by managing computer systems and all those cost are usually attributable directly to overhead. We understand that the cost associated with compliance to HIPAA and HITECH can be prohibitive to any medical practice especially in this economic climate. We reviewed the packages our clients are currently using in their offices. We saw a blend of good to great software packages deployed on-site at each Practice office supported by dial-in techs that often need someone at the office location to check, reset and basically understand the inner workings of the network, the business model and knowledge of the hardware of each system on that accesses the system. We in effect had become an extension of the technical support team and were often called in more to review the EMR software as to review our digital images. This whole process had us wondering what would be the best model for a medical practice to take to get in compliance and not lose money with the HITECH Act.
We, at ImageWorld, found a solution. We have teamed up with PracticeFusion to offer an on-line worry free and financially FREE government certified EMR system that makes its money on a small advertizing banner that scrolls at the bottom of your browser page.
