Can we tell what this initiative will produce when it is fully implemented?
No! No one can and if they tell you they know, then run as fast as you can in the other direction. What we propose is to develop a flexible system that will allow for changes as they are required and not lock you down into a single vendor solution. Because most certainly those vendors that are supplying proprietary systems will not be compliant with the new standards.

IW’s Solution Although the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) standards are not known at this time, we are prepared to capture your documents and export them to whatever standard emerges as the nationally supported standard by the industry.
Imageworld will capture your records in Tiff format which is the industry standard. This allows us to process the Tiff files into ISO standard 130002 or Text under Page Image PDF. And new proposed standard can easily be accomplished with a simple conversion routine.
Like trying to nail Jell-O to the wall, how do you protect your investment in a system that has considerable fluidity to an ultimate solution?
We only have to look at how standards are developed and how they are adopted in industry. Back in the 70’s and 80’s much conversation took place over the emerging network standards of token ring and Ethernet. Token ring was a great technology delivering great performance without the collision issues with Ethernet. Then why did Ethernet become the standard? Because it was an open standard with many thousands of manufactures developing products with that standard. Try to find a token ring network today is impossible.
This same process will take place for EMR and the deployment of a medical record standard. Will the documents be PDF or XML or some other format may emerge. It really doesn’t matter as long as you plan for the ultimate conversion to that standard. Are you a health care provider? Don’t miss out on latest news regarding EMR grants.
